Dr. Michael Goione Champions Non-Opioid Pain Management at Youth Sports Safety Conference

Last Friday, the Partnership For a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) hosted a “Keeping New Jersey Athletes Safe” conference at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City. This critical assembly, which featured coaches, athletic directors, and trainers, among other key stakeholders, aimed to address the opioid crisis within the context of youth sports.

The ANJC was prominently represented by Dr. Michael Goione of Navesink Chiropractic Center—who participated as a panelist and is also the ANJC Insurance Consultant and team chiropractor for Monmouth University and Georgian Court University. The discussion centered on proactive measures to protect young athletes from the risks of opioid misuse, with Dr. Goione emphasizing chiropractic care as a potent, non-opioid alternative for pain management.

“As we tackle the challenge of opioid misuse among young athletes, it’s crucial to promote safer, non-addictive methods for pain management. Chiropractic care offers a viable solution that not only alleviates pain but also supports overall well-being without the risks associated with opioids,” said Dr. Michael Goione.

The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey has been a beacon of substance use prevention since 1992, engaging in widespread educational campaigns and initiatives across the state. This nonprofit has advanced public service announcements and facilitated crucial educational programs that significantly impact families and academic institutions. The ANJC supports the PDFNJ and is committed to public health and the well-being of New Jersey’s youth—fostering safer sports environments and promoting healthier lifestyles among young athletes by advocating for non-pharmaceutical pain management strategies.

The insights shared were invaluable for those involved in youth sports and interested in learning more about protecting young athletes. We encourage our members and the public to continue engaging with and supporting such significant initiatives.
