As previously reported, Aetna will be implementing a new pre-authorization program managed by National Imaging Associates (NIA) beginning January 1st. The process will be required for in-network providers on fully funded policies only. For dates of service on or after Jan. 1, pre-authorization will be required in order for payment to be issued.
Aetna network providers may start learning the system and begin entering requests for care for patients they are currently treating, and likely to continue treating into the new year, through an NIA website activated this week for New Jersey providers. If you are an in-network provider with Aetna, you may wish to set up your profile and begin exploring the process ahead of the Jan. 1 changeover.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are the only employee of your practice and need to list yourself as both the administrator and supervisor of an account, enter “owner” in the Job Title field when creating your account.
